2006-2007 Season
Dear Circle of Friends, Sponsors, Collaborators and Fellow Artists,
Gracias. We accomplished our 2006-2007 season thanks to your generosity. We opened last August by writing and staging a new children’s play for the WNY Families of FANA summer camp, La Chiva Catagena de Indias. Antecesores sponsored 4 kids from the Herman Badillo School and the West Side community to attend the camp. In total there were 80 young performers. Congratulations to all of you and to FANA for such a great camp.
During the National Hispanic Heritage Month, we produced Pinceladas de Amor; two evenings of romantic poetry in honor of José de Diego, Julia de Burgos and Clara Lair, followed by a presentation of original poetry written by students from Grover Cleveland High School and Buffalo Seminary. The combination of our actors and students reciting last century’s and modern poetry was one of our most magical experiences in history!
To warm up the holidays we celebrated Parranda Familiar at the Pucho Olivencia Center. The opening number featured a dance performed by former participants of Nuestras Raíces and candidates of the 2007 Miss Borinquen Pageant. Next, the Grover Cleveland students honored us again with their poetry and Antecesores’ singers and musicians delivered an amazing original collage of holiday tunes from Latin America.
In May, thanks to a grant from The John
R. Oshei Foundation, and after almost two years of planning,
Antecesores produced Bienvenido Don Goyito, a comedy
by Manuel Méndez Ballester about the struggles of a Puerto Rican family
learning to manage the American culture’s influence on the island. A
special thank you to our actors and the artistic team. You were AMAZING!
This will definitively be an unforgettable production.
